On a recent summer day at California's Sacramento International Airport, Transportation Security Officer Clarence Clark found concealed in a passenger's flip-flop sandal what appeared to be a round of ammunition. Further inspection revealed that the object was a small metal ink pen that closely resembled the size and shape of a bullet. The hidden compartment was in the sandal's sole.
The passenger said he had just purchased the sandals and did not realize there was a Velcro-secured compartment. He was allowed to travel and there were no delays.
